Birch is a symbol of north woods and northern peoples. For centuries, its versatile bark has been used to craft beautiful, durable, functional objects — canoes and containers, and woven into a variety of shapes and objects — baskets, and even shoes. These workshops offer a chance to sample the possibilities of birch bark weaving.
Put a little Nordic love in your life by weaving a heart made with birch bark. Enjoy your woven heart plain or add a traditional pinwheel embellishment. Add ribbon or string for hanging. Lovely for hanging year 'round or gifting someone special.
Please bring the following supplies:
- A pair of scissors
A needle for threading ribbon/string for hanging. A blunt end needle (darning needle) is preferred, but a sewing needle is also fine
The instructor will provide ribbon, but feel free to bring your own ribbon or string, if you prefer.
