The beads we will be making use card stock, printed with designs OR by cutting images like thick calendar images, to create the individual beads. Color as an accent is what we are after as we hone our paper braiding techniques into a necklace to be worn on a strip of leather, a braided cord, or other form of necklace. This technique was taught to Chriztine over 20 years ago by a member of the Weavers Guild of Boston, a mathematician, who learned it from a Russian who learned it from a Japanese woman. Like so many hand arts, it is meant to be passed on to be used by the next generations. Chriztine was also shown on the HGTV show: That’s Clever, in 2005.

Chriztine Foltz is an American, educated in Denmark as a Textile Designer. She went to Denmark to hone her weaving techniques but ended her studies by specializing in fabric printing. Sewing her own clothes since she was 7, she also holds a degree in pattern drafting. Other degrees are a Masters in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College. Textiles, of ALL types and fabrication have always intrigued her and so she has been a textile creator/fabricator of prototypes for engineering firms for the past 25 years, specializing in military, electronic and medical applications. Chriztine taught textiles and basic design on the college level from 2001-2016. She is retired, but working at the Natick Soldier Center, where she is part of the new fibers and fabric development team.
