Would you like to try your hand at designing a small landscape wall hanging?  Join Lynn as she walks you through Karen Eckmeier’s Accidental Landscape book.  Her technique is very easy, not only to design but to sew as well.

Be on the lookout for fabrics that look like or remind you of sky, water, land, greenery and/or flowers.  Bring pieces that measure over 6” x 18” and see what kind of wonderful little creation you can design. Your landscape may be a water, beach, forest or garden design.

Requirements:

Fabrics:

  • ** 1 piece of muslin 16” x 20”
  • Assortment of fabrics that represent “Nature” to you.  Sky, sand, pebbles, trees, flowers, any thing that says landscapes.  Lynn will have lots to share also.
  • A backing fabric 16 x 20
  • ** Batting: 1 - 16” x 20” piece of very flat cotton or cotton/poly blend batting.  No polyester please.

Other needed items:

  • Sewing machine in good working order.
  • Foot pedal and power cord
  • Machine manual
  • Rotary cutter with a sharp blade
  • ** 6 X 24 ruler.  A smaller ruler will work fine also.
  • Medium size cutting mat.
  • Straight pins
  • ** Machine needles:  Universal 70/10 needles.  These are thinner than quilting needles.
  • Hand needles if you want to hand stitch your landscape.
  • Tweezers – any style.
  • ** A small glue stick, such as Elmers purple stick.  This will help hold some of your pieces in place.

Threads:  Select thread colors that match some of your fabrics.  Bobbins can be medium grey.

A small flannel backed tablecloth.  You can roll the piece inside making it easy to travel home with it.

If you wish to purchase a great Landscape book:  Accidental Landscapes by Karen Eckmeier is great book.  Full of good directions.  Available at quilt shops or on Amazon.
