This class is all about sustainability, reuse, and wanting to enjoy an afternoon making a project in community. If you have ever woven a potholder and enjoyed the process, you will love this class.
If you have never woven in your life, you will love this class. If you want to just have an enjoyable afternoon working in community, you will love this class.
Shirley native, Twyla Lambert Clark, will teach how she weaves t-shirts on Flicks looms into wall hangings, rugs, and even dog beds. For this class we will concentrate on thick rugs which make fabulous bathmats or dog beds or wall hangings. A small rug about 2’ x 3” can easily require 20-30 t-shirts depending on t-shirt size & quality. Twyla will have extra t-shirts available at no charge in various colors.
It is strongly recommended not to use rayon t-shirts. Cotton or cotton blend is preferable, and shirts must be freshly washed & dried.
We will use rotary cutters and cutting mats to cut t-shirts into loopers for warp and weft. Twyla has looms in various sizes available; we will all be sharing and working together to leave with finished rugs.
The rugs are woven entirely by hand to weave, beat and and crochet off the loom with our fingers. We will work hard to make the rugs nice and tight and thick.
