Discover the rich tradition of handcrafted brooms in this hands-on class. Using natural broomcorn and traditional techniques, you will learn how to construct a variety of functional and decorative whisk brooms. Students will explore binding methods, handle wrapping, and color accents to personalize their creations. We will start with a crumb brush, pot scrubber, and cake tester the get the feel on the tying boxes, followed by the flicker to learn the “V” up, then will learn to put feathers on. Students can make angel wings, hawks tail, turkey wings, ostrich wings, hens wings, doubles, etc, once they get the basics down pat.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced maker, this class will provide the skills and knowledge to craft several style of hand brooms.
Everyone should complete 4 – 6 brooms.

I am a born and raised and stayed Hoosier. All my life I have been interested in creating with my hands. In 1988 I was introduced to basket making and the rest is history. It is my love and passion. My styles and creativity have evolved over time, but the passion has never left. In 2006, a broom making class was offered at a retreat I attended and I again was hooked. Starting with only hand tying brooms until I was able to obtain a kick winder, now brooms are a very close second to my basket passion. In 2016 I had the honor of being named an Indiana Artisan by the State of Indiana, juried in both baskets and brooms. I love to see the joy my baskets and brooms bring to others. I hope you enjoy them as much as I love making them. All my baskets and brooms are proudly made in Lafayette, Indiana
